Thinking, Designing and Constructing Green
Betsy del Monte, AIA
Director of Sustainability and Principal in Architecture
The Beck Group - Dallas
The issue of sustainability has been widely discussed as a driving force, but how much has it really changed architectural practice? Ms. del Monte will address the issue of defining sustainability for the building industry and identifying the ways it is changing architectural and construction methods. Sustainability is one of three interrelated trends that will change how we conceive and deliver buildings at all scales.
Betsy del Monte has been focusing on issues of sustainability in commercially successful projects for many years. A registered architect and LEED AP, she has 26 years of experience in architectural design, project management, and sustainability consulting. She assists with all aspects of a project, whether a LEED certification is sought or a building simply needs to be as high-performance a design as possible.
As an Adjunct Associate Professor, she teaches a Certificate course in Sustainability at the SMU School of Engineering. Ms. del Monte was 2007 President of AIA Dallas, and 2006 Chair of the North Texas Green Building Council. She is involved at local and national levels with the USGBC and other groups focused on sustainable construction. She is also active with other community and professional groups such as Vision North Texas and The Architectural Foundation.
