Barnett Shale Urban Drilling:
What's it all about?

Andy Agosto
Vice President, Business Development
Carrizo Oil & Gas

The Barnett Shale geologic formation as a source of natural gas has become one of North Texas’ largest generators of economic development and also public interest and response. What is the process of extracting natural gas in an urban environment and why is it being done?

Mr. Agosto will provide an overview on the role of the engineer in acquiring oil and gas mineral leases, formulating development plans, designing the wells that are drilled and operating the wells once they are drilled.  The interaction between Carrizo and the community and local government as this entire process is conducted will also be discussed.  Carrizo’s drilling activities on the UT Arlington campus will provide a backdrop for this presentation.

Andy Agosto has been involved in the oil and gas business for more than 25 years.  After graduating from Texas A&M in 1982 with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, he joined Shell Exploration & Production in their West Coast Division as a reservoir engineer.  Andy held numerous positions of increasing responsibility at Shell and left the company in 1998 to become the chief operating officer of CCNG, Inc. a small, privately-held energy company in Houston focused on the midstream and service side of the energy business.  Andy assumed his current position in 2003 with the primary role of developing and managing Carrizo’s efforts in the Barnett Shale play.
